Young Master Ales was born out of a desire to brew distinctive, world-class, extremely fresh beers locally for Hong Kong. With this project, our goal is to revive craft brewing in Hong Kong and bring the local drinking experience up a notch.
Our beers are brewed fresh with the highest quality ingredients. We will constantly innovate and bring new styles to showcase the diversity in beer. In doing that, we will push the envelope and possibly even make you rethink your perceptions of beer. We insist on preserving everything that’s good and natural about freshly brewed beer. To this end, we do not filter, pasteurize, or add artificial stabilizers or chemicals to our products simply to extend their shelf-life. We also use naturally produced carbon dioxide during fermentation and do not artificially carbonate. Our beer will be the freshest you can find in Hong Kong with the shortest distance traveled from grain to your glass.
Island 1842 Imperial IPA
hoppy, complex, robust
The Island 1842 is an Imperial IPA designed for those who prefer a bold and powerful drink. Our goal with this beer was to coax out and showcase every nuance that our outsized malt and hop bill had to offer. This beer’s hop character is potent with additions in the first wort, constantly through the boil, at flameout and then generously during fermentation. In order to balance the strong hop profile, we built an appropriately robust malt backbone. The moment you pour Island 1842 into your snifter, expect a powerful nose of spicy, floral and zesty hops. The complexity of flavor will then continue to unfold with each sip and the flavor will linger on the palate.

refreshing, salty, sour
A classic sour and salty gose brewed with salted lime (鹹檸) commonly found in local Cha Chan Tengs in Hong Kong and served with lemon sodas. A perfect refreshing respite from the local humid weather, this beer will please beer geeks and novices alike.
A true classic that won’t ever go out of fashion. The Classic Pale Ale is designed to be versatile – you can drink this all day and in all seasons. With an elegant balance of European malts and new world hops, this has just enough fullness blanked with zesty and crisp hop flavour to suit all palates.

One Big Pot represents, both figuratively and literally a melting pot of diverse Asian cultures in beer form. It is a single foeder sour ale fermented with a mixed culture of Brettanomyces, Pediococcus and Lactobacillus strains. It was then finished in Chardonnay barrels with ingredients from the homes of participating breweries including honey from the Great Wall, kimchi chilies and dried lime.
Style: Sour Ale
With our single-foeder sour ale as the base, we blended in a medley of mixed forest berries and fermented it a second time in brandy barrels. Intense berry flavors combined with funk and acidity from the base beer makes it incredibly complex, yet extremely refreshing.

Herr Altbauer is a traditional German Weizenbock brewed in honor of our late brewmaster Ulrich Altbauer. It's an authentic example of a dark wheat-based beer with phenolic clove-like spiciness and fruity banana-like esters on with a robust malt backbone reminiscent of caramel, chocolate and dark fruits. Profits from the sale of this beer will be donated to Ulrich's family.
