Jamsheed Wines

Jamsheed represents the past and future of creative wines from down under. These wines break the mold of conventional philosophy toward Aussie wines. Not because he is doing something abnormal, rather the opposite. Gary Mills, the visionary, brains and hands behind Jamsheed views terroir as the sole focus of his wines and the expression is the goal. This is certainly not a 'new' concept. Moreover, Gary strives for flavor, precision and balance in his wines...again, nothing new here

Jamsheed Harem La Syrah

Made with fruit from the Pyrenees and Yarra Valley, using indigenous yeast and a high percentage of whole bunch, the 2013 Harem La Syrah has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and is scented of black berries and mulberries with a savory undercurrent of bacon fat and marmite toast. Medium-bodied with a solid backbone of rounded tannins and lively acid, it offers plenty of earthy/meaty flavors right through to a good, long finish.

Jamsheed Wines Le Blanc Plonk

For the 2014 incarnation of Le Blanc Plonk, Gary Mills drafted in some 100-year-old Riesling fruit from Garden Gully Vineyard, Great Western. Add to this, some lovely pristine fruit from Barwite vineyard in Mansfield (Upper Goulburn) and we've got one hell of a release on our hands. Gary tells us that both sites retain their acidity well, meaning the only addition to the wine was a small amount of SO2 at the press and then at bottling. The juice was barrel fermented (on full solids) with indigenous yeasts in a mix of old 800, 500, 300 and 225-litre barrels, and left on its nourishing lees for 8-10 months.

The old vine material steeps a definite ginger, kaffir lime/ginseng quality to the wine, while the residual sugar pushes the palate towards a candied jube spectrum. The wine's sweetness and juicy freshness on the tongue create a delicious tension in this seamlessly balanced and engagingly textured wine.
