William Downie

William Downie established his own label in 2003 after several years living and working in Burgundy.

His intention is to produce wines of purity and detail that reflect their place of origin. They are made in the most natural way possible, not pushed or shoved in any direction. They are not added to or subtracted from.

Although each of the William Downie wines is made from Pinot Noir, the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula and Gippsland are more different than they are similar.

William was the Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine Young Australian Winemaker of The Year for 2006

William Downie Gippsland Pinot Noir 2015

William Downie is young Australian Pinot Noir royalty. Learning his trade in the vineyards of Burgundy, Bill came back to Australia and set up his own label in Victoria's east, specifically in Gippsland. His wines are extremely limited in nature and Pinot lovers shouldn't waste any time in adding some William Downie to their cellars. The Gippsland Pinot Noir is wonderfully balanced with blackcurrant, blackberry and hints of clove and nutmeg. Beautifully dense and concentrated on the palate, lifted violets and florals shine through along with the inextricably long finish.

William Downie Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir 2015

Silky and round, this superb wine shows why William Downie is rightly considered one of the best Pinot producers in the country. A terrific example of Downie's philosophy of 'time and place', this Pinot is fresh and lively, with great flavour concentration and character. After a many years in bottle the wine will develop beautifully by releasing all the complex cranberry, plum and lavender notes.
