Longview is a stunning family owned Australian vineyard located just outside the historic township of Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills. Set on undulating slopes reminiscent of classic old world estates, it has quickly established itself as one the most awarded vineyards in the region since its first vintage in 2001. Longview Vineyard is a little warmer than other Adelaide Hills' sites but its wines are still decidedly cool climate in style showing restraint and finesse without sacrificing depth.
Beautifully balanced Cabernet full of gorgeous blueberry and blackcurrant fruit, it delivers amazing purity and depth of flavour. We have tasted very few Cabernets from anywhere that are as good as this! Match with rib-eye steak in pepper sauce.
Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon
The growing season in Macclesfield in was exceptional despite a burst of early heat. Cool even temperatures followed ensuring an excellent vintage for Longview and the Adelaide Hills. All Shiraz for were handpicked, sorted and fermented in four separate one tonne open fermenters. ‘The Piece’ Shiraz was aged for 24 months in new and old 300 litre French oak hogsheads.
We recommend careful decanting. Once opened it displays aromas of white pepper, maraschino cherry, liquorice and mocha coupled with restrained pencil shavings of French oak. The palate displays a tightly wound balance of cherry, red currant, blueberries and fresh acidity. Dusty tannins complement the finish which is dry and clean with tremendous length. Cellar for 12 years or more.
Yakka Shiraz is sourced entirely from Longview’s vineyard at Macclesfield, Adelaide Hills. The fruit was hand-picked to minimize fruit damage, fermented on skins for 7 to 10 days in open fermenters. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged in old and new French Oak Barriques for 18 months.
The newly released 2014 vintage of Longview Yakka Shiraz is again in fine form; leaping from the glass with vibrant fruit flavours, chocolate and nice restrained oak, if finishes with impressive balance and length.
