Babich Black Label Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2016

A wine first produced in 2005 that is exclusive to restaurants and bars. The Black Label Sauvignon Blanc has been developed to complement food. We have blended a wine from estate-owned vineyards which, while displaying the pungent and crisp characteristics that set Marlborough sourced fruit apart, shows greater depth and complexity on the palate.
The bouquet is an inviting mix of tropical, passionfruit aromas. Palate entry is luscious and lively, bursting with passionfruit. This is a fantastic example of Black Label Sauvignon that is equally enjoyable on its own and with food.

Benjamin Leroux Auxey-Duresses Blanc 2012

Sandwiched between Saint-Romain and Meursault, Auxey-Duresses is one of the high quality off-piste Villages of the Côte de Beaune. Its vineyards below the village abut the Meursault Villages Les Vireuils dessus and Les Miex Chavaux, yet due to a contortion in the slope they remain north-facing and are therefore affected by the cool air rolling down the Hautes-Côtes. It's from these cool, mineral terroirs - Les Hautés, Les Macabrée and Les Boutonniers - that Leroux sources his fruit for this cuvée. The yields were at least 50% down in 2012 (equating to only 18 hl/ha of juice) and subsequently this has more stone fruit density than usual, yet the rocky, mineral terroir of Auxey still sings through. In fact it's the wine's stone-polished purity and zingy citrus, chalk and spearmint cut that provide the defining features. The finish is fabulously rocky and mineral, and lingers on and on. 10% new wood only.
'Here the nose is a bit riper with its pretty mix of white peach, green fruit and hint of honey. There is excellent richness to the generously proportioned flavors that possess good mid-palate fat before concluding in a delicious finish that once again is clean and agreeably dry if not particularly complex.' 87 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com issue 55

Château Monbrison Haut-Médoc de Monbrison 2010

A blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon and 46% Merlot. Opaque black crimson red colour with dark crimson hue. Quite perfumed top note aromas of ripe blackcurrant and liquorice greet the nose followed by some more subtle black cherry, light cigar box and spice scents. The palate possesses good richness within its medium bodied frame delivering flavours of blackcurrant alongside some more nuanced characters of black cherry and liquorice with underlying cedar and spice. Slightly dryish but very fine grained tannins impart some chewiness on the finish. Long blackcurrant, cedar, subtle earth and spice aftertaste.

Domaine Michèle et Patrice Rion Nuits-St Georges, Les Terres Blanches, 1er Cru 2013

Picked in time, before the rain, this has a pale straw colour with a clear crisp nose. There is lovely weight to this with a mineral clarity which is exciting. Lovely fresh pear notes, very fine.
Jasper Morris, MW - Wine Buyer

Despite this being a very late season, Patrice compares 2013 to the fruit of early vintages such as 2007 and 2011, but with more stuffing. It also reminds him of 1980, a particularly successful vintage chez Rion. The 2013 crop is a small one though, a touch more than 2012 but less than 2011. They employed two sorting tables, and since the grapes which reached the vats were all healthy, they used less sulphur during vinification.

Jean-François Mérieau Les Bulles

A blend of 80% Chenin Blanc and 20% Chardonnay, organically grown and aged on the lees for 18-20 months. The dosage is very low at 4 grams per liter, resulting in a refreshing, crisp wine. This bubbly has a bright nose of apple and pears with hints of citrus. The palamte is creamy and rich and the finish is juicy and long. I find myself reaching for this wine often as it really hits the spot after a long day. According to Wine Spectator: "This sparkler is forward, with a prominent spicy ginger note lading the way for pear, melon and brioche flavors. Stays racy on the finish, with the ginger note lingering. Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. Drink now.
